Klaus Pollak Joins Engineering Team

July 1, 2010

nPoint, a manufacturer of nanoprecision motion systems, is pleased to announce that Klaus Pollak has joined its engineering team. Mr. Pollak is globally recognized as an expert in the design of piezo driven flexure stages. He will be responsible for expanding nPoint's standard and custom product offerings. Mr. Pollack has developed motion control equipment used in optics, interferometry, microscopy, and biophysics. Dr. Max Lagally, CEO of nPoint, in announcing Mr. Pollak said, "Klaus has a keen mind for solving design challenges. His ability to look at a motion control problem from multiple angles and develop solutions that account for performance, cost and manufacturability makes him an outstanding addition to our team."

Mr. Pollak has 12 years of engineering and project management experience. Dr. Katerina Moloni, nPoint's V.P. of Product Development noted, "Klaus brings a wealth of product design experience to his new role. His broad understanding of piezo stage design for OEM and researcher applications will enable nPoint to expand our expertise and better meet our customer's motion control needs."

Mr. Pollak has extensive experience working with customers in the United States. During his seven years as a Design Engineer for Physik Instrumente, he frequently met with US customers to understand their motion control needs and develop integrated solutions. Mr. Pollak's proximity to nPoint's European customers will facilitate nPoint's expanding presence in the region. In August of 2009, nPoint contracted Ralf Stamm to represent nPoint in Germany, Austria The Czech Republic and Switzerland.

Prior to joining nPoint, Mr. Pollak was a Project Manager for ebm-pabst GmbH & Co. KG, St. Georgen, Germany, a manufacturer of industrial fans and motors. Prior to that, he worked seven years as a R&D engineer with Physik Instrumente, in Karlsruhe, Germany, where he developed over 100 flexure stages. Mr. Pollak , has a Mechanical Engineering Diploma from Technical University Furtwangen and a Diploma Thesis from Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe GmbH, Institute for Microstructure Technology, both in Germany.

nPoint introduces two new MultiMode® AFM closed-loop scanners

February 18, 2010

The new MultiMode® scanners from nPoint offer 50µm and 100µm closed-loop XY scanning ranges and 5µm open-loop Z range. The open-loop Z offering takes advantage of the MultiMode®'s high resolution capabilities. The closed-loop XY offering utilizes real-time position feedback to eliminate piezo creep and hysteresis. This enables a wide range of applications including lithography, single-molecule force spectroscopy, and nanomanipulation.

nPoint also offers a full range of XYZ closed-loop MultiMode® scanners with up to 100µm travel range in XY and 15µm in Z. One-click zooming, one-click repositioning and point-and-shoot capabilities are possible with all the nPoint MultiMode® scanners.
