Director of Engineering

Continued growth has resulted in our need for a new Director of Engineering. We are looking for a person with at least five years of hands-on experience in precision design and instrumentation development, and a background in integration and systems engineering. The Director of Engineering provides and guides the overall technical vision of the Company to ensure and advance the Company's leadership in the industry via identification, design, development, and integration of new products and processes, in addition to improving and enhancing existing product lines. Responsibilities include: provide technical leadership, vision, and management; lead new-product innovation, including participation in hands-on design; staff and manage technically proficient personnel in the department; ensure specification, cost, and schedule of R&D projects; and work with manufacturing to improve process capabilities across all product lines. The individual will work closely with Sales and Marketing, as well as Manufacturing. Travel to customers may be required.

Required:

  • Proven project management background.
  • Demonstrated experience with FEA.
  • Develop the required technical and product marketing expertise through direct training, one-to-one mentoring and cross-training. Continually develop product application design, and operational knowledge. Keep abreast of industry, product and equipment trends, new techniques, material and competitive approaches.

Preferred:

  • An advanced degree in engineering or physical science, and a strong employment history in management of R&D/product development.
  • Experience with motion control sensing technology, such as linear encoders, laser interferometer and other sensors is preferred.
  • Experience in the design of piezoelectric actuators.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including technical presentations and papers.

Senior Electronics Engineer

Continued growth has resulted in our need to expand our engineering team. This is a senior level position for the design of motion controllers for piezo actuated nano-positioners being developed by nPoint. The primary responsibility of this position will be the design of new controller electronics with an emphasis on digital signal processing and data acquisition. The responsibilities will cover a range of engineering work including specification assessment, hardware and firmware design, and verification testing.

Tasking will include schematic entry, designing prototype circuit boards, testing of prototypes, integrating boards into systems, working with software engineers on the design of controls, and support during field testing.

Occasional travel to customer sites may be required.

Essential Skills

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years experience in both analog and digital electronics design with emphasis on high-resolution, high-accuracy, low noise data acquisition.
  • Perform circuit simulations (Pspice).
  • Familiarity with schematic capture tools.
  • Ability to manage a project, including scheduling, cost estimates, and tracking project details.
  • Familiarity with DSP hardware and firmware design is a plus.
  • Familiarity with control systems is a plus.
  • Experience with Matlab and Simulink is a plus.

Technical Sales

We are seeking a Technical Sales individual to accelerate our sales efforts in the Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) marketplace. The ideal candidate will be interested in applying their knowledge of nPoint products and user AFM applications to promote our products in corporate and academic research environments. The ability to manage start-to-finish technical sales in scientific instrumentation tools will be crucial to the success of this position. You will expand customer awareness through trade shows, product demonstrations, and technical presentations. A key aspect of this position will be using your technical skills to assist with customer support activities and product development.

Qualifications:

  • Education: the position requires a bachelor's degree in an engineering, science or related discipline.
  • Skills: excellent oral and written communication is required as well as technical aptitude and the ability to learn the customer applications quickly.
  • Three years experience in a direct selling or a technical support role for analytical equipment.

Assembly Technician

Responsibilities include inspection of incoming parts, cabling assembly, assembly of electro-mechanical product to specification using epoxy, soldering iron, hand tools, assembly of electronic equipment, including PCAs.

Maintenance and updating of manufacturing documentation. Other responsibilities include maintainence of assembly documentation and participation in product design review processes to ensure assembly efficiency.

  • Soldering experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Familiarity with electronic testing equipment including:
    • function generators
    • oscilloscopes
    • multimeters
  • Ability to sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.

Mechanical Design Engineer

nPoint, Inc, a high-tech company specializing in nanopositioning products, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer. Responsibilities will include mechanical design of nanopositioning stage products, testing fixtures, electronics closures and other precision mechanical components and assemblies. The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of mechanical design with a proficiency in Solidworks, Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering and 4-5 years industry experience in mechanical design. The candidate would be responsible for generating detailed mechanical designs, and the creation of all drawings and documentation for the Company's products. Teamwork skills and efficiency in designing work are essential. Pay commensurate with experience, good benefits and stock options. Requirements:

  • Four-year engineering degree required, BSME preferred
  • Demonstrated FEA experience.
  • Five to ten years experience in a design/manufacturing environment.
  • Experience formulating design alternatives to achieve desired industrial design concepts.
  • Experience with SolidWorks a plus.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a member of a cross-functional team.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and decision making skills.
  • Ability to act as a lead player and work in environments experiencing routine and rapid change.
